Born in Toronto, 1974(?), she started singing at a young age. Amanda grew up hearing the sounds
of calypso from her mother's native country Trinidad. She was also exposed to the music of the 60's
because of her father's Canadian background. At the age of 18 she got her big break. Singing at a local Toronto
nightclub. Sitting in the audience looking on as she sang was the great singer/guitarist Jeff Healey. He told
her that at her next performance he would sing with her on stage...and he did much to her shock. This performance
opened the doors for Amanda. She began touring with the Jeff Healy band, which allowed her to explore the Blue's.
Amanda gives credit to David Tyson for allowing her to explore the realms of music. She wrote 'Sitting on Top of the World'
which was the first song recorded for the album, and she co-wrote two others. Amanda wanted a diverse album, not the same old
'love and loss' songs. Songs such as 'Let it Rain', 'Sitting on Top of the World', and 'Fall from Grace' are
relationship songs. Whereas 'Birmingham' and 'Last Exit To Eden' told a descernible story. 'Promises' is about the L.A. riots,
and 'Dark Horse' is a personal story. Now at 23 and still considered young for the business, she has carved a niche for
herself in the music industry, doing what many artist fail to do. Her debut album which was released in October of 1995, went 6 times platinum!
In Canada stores sold over 800,000 copies. In the U.S. she sold more than 350,000 copies, and in the rest of the world she sold another 350,000 copies.
She has been featured on three soundtacks 'Tin Cup', 'My Best Friends Wedding' and most recently 'Touched By An Angel', singing her new hit single 'Believe in You'.
She has made numerous T.V. appearances, most recently she appeared on the 'Rosie O'Donell' show, singing her new single and chatting about her new album titled 'Tuesday's Child' or 'Shades of Gray'.
Her debut album was a huge success, and fans around the world are anticipating the sequel which is sure to be fantastic.
